RESIDENTIAL

Since our inception, we have worked on over 130 new and/or renovations to single family homes in the Victoria area, and are well versed with the requirements for single family homes including the new design requirements for seismic resistance. Where possible, the lateral system for a new home will be designed in accordance with the requirement of BCBC 2012 Part 9, but for non-conforming layouts, the design will meet the requirements of the BCBC 2012 Part 4. We have used this approach to successfully deliver single family home projects throughout Victoria while maintaining construction details that are both conventional and cost effective. We will draw upon all of our relevant experience to help ensure this project is successfully delivered to the Owner.

We believe in the power of collaboration and relationship building as key elements to a successful project. The following is a selection of our engineers’ recent partnerships on single family homes resulting in many award-winning projects:

  • Ryan Hoyt Design
  • Aspire Custom Designs
  • Finlayson Bonet Architecture
  • Arya Dezign
  • Over 50 additional single family home projects with clients such as:

SIPS ICF and Passive Houses

Skyline Engineering has recently completed several small residential houses utilizing the design ideals for Passive House construction. Skyline Engineering was also part of the consultant team for The GVHS Townley Lodge project that was recently put on hold due to difficulties in the development approval process. The Townley Lodge project utilized special wall and foundation systems to develop continuous insulated envelope for the building. This approach helps to achieve energy conservation through efficiency in thermal losses as well as solar gains. Skyline worked closely with the design team to develop efficient and economic details.

We are involved with the following additional projects at varying levels of design and construction that include passive house ideals and design details:

  • 235 Montreal Street
  • 308 Coal Point Lane
  • 2670 Herbate Road
  • 986 cowichan Street

Our dedicated team has completed more than 50 multi-unit residential projects on Vancouver Island including the Lyra Residences, McCallum Road mixed use development, Summit Care Home, and the Wade.

When designing projects, the team combines their engineering expertise in the use of conventional and heavy timber wood frame, reinforced concrete, and steel to create efficient and unique structural designs where structural function complements Architectural form.

COMMERCIAL

Our LEED certified team of structural engineers have worked on more than 40 new and existing sports and recreation facilities including the Westshore Seniors Centre Addition, Sam Ketcham Pool Expansion, and Westshore YMCA. Whatever the size and scope, we have the skills, resources, and experience to ensure your project is a success.

Skyline Engineering’s three Principals have been providing structural engineering services to Vancouver Island’s hospitals and health care centres for more than 20 years. In that time, we have completed more than 75 projects, including the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Emergency Department, Archie Courtnall Centre Psychiatric Emergency facility, and Victoria General Hospital Emergency Department Redevelopment.

Our team of structural engineering professionals has the skills, resources, and experience to provide exceptional results at competitive pricing, whatever the project. Our principals have worked on more than 25 significant retail and commercial projects in BC and Alberta, including the Dockside Green development, High River Sobeys Shopping Centre, and Langford White Spot.

Our principals have extensive experience with both new and renovated office buildings for organizations on Vancouver Island such as FortisBC, Reliable Controls, and Andrew Sheret. Many of our designs integrate steel and wood to create aesthetically pleasing structural elements that utilize the strengths of wood with the efficiency of steel, emphasizing environmental sustainability. Many of our successfully completed office projects are LEED certified.

Our team has considerable experience providing structural engineering for schools across Vancouver Island such as Glenlyon Norfolk School, Shawnigan Lake School, and the University of Victoria. Our team specializes in executing School Seismic Mitigation Program (SPIR) projects and has successfully completed recent SPIRs for Craigflower Elementary School and Shoreline Community Middle School.
